Previous Products that have similar themes to our narrative

Our film has many physiological themes which can be linked to previous media texts 'Shutter Island' (2010) and 'Fight Club' (1999). These films portray dissociative identity disorder in a more thematic and dramatic way, with both of them being shrouded in mystery which keeps the audience guessing which plot element comes next.

In Fight Club we see the film through the (unnamed) narrator's eyes therefore we see the figment of his mind which is 'Tyler Durden'. This a theme that we would like to take for our own film, as it will lead to a large reveal at the end of the film.

Although we are presenting the illness as a plot device to some respect, we do want to create some sympathy for the character with it. We are constructing a much more positive representation of dissociative identity disorder in our film, although the character does act in a threatening manner, we want the audience to feel genuine sympathy for him.

Mental illness in film is common, so for our film we want to take it from more of a unique angle. We are going to examine not how the main characters actions will affect their own lives, but the lives of those around them.

First Key Scene - First Draft

This is the first section of our first key scene (although we need to include the footage of Jennifer being kidnapped by Damian). I feel that although some of the footage in the scene is effective (such as establishing the scene with a panning shot) and portraying the character through a close up of a facial expression, that there were many disadvantages to this shoot. Firstly filming at 4:00pm in the evening during Autumn is something I would like to change next time we film, as the lighting changed it became much more difficult to film. I also believe next time we should film the same shots multiple times, leaving us to 'cherry-pick' which ones we think are most effective. The reason we didn't finish the scene was the camera's battery ran out. This taught us to fully charge the camera before each use.
