Age range -
As teenage drama feature issues that affect teenagers, it is pretty much obvious that one of the age ranges I am going to concentrate on is teenagers. My ideal audience would be between 16 to around 24, however I may need to reconsider many of the themes of social realism. This will mean that a lot of my audience are in education or further education, and are more interested in rather niche films as opposed to blockbusters. I have constructed a collage of films and TV series expect the audience to consume:
I have included some more critically acclaimed films such as 'Django Unchained' and 'Inception' even if they are not teen-drama, as I expect my audience to have a wide range of film tastes and enjoy reading film reviews through magazines such as 'Empire'.
One of the ways I can make my audience relate to my product, is through the cast I am going to feature. The young cast of unknowns makes my product more realistic, which is doubled with my realistic surrounding. I believe if my audience will consume films at niche cinemas such as 'The Electric' Cinema in Birmingham City Centre. This cinema focuses more on the quality of films over blockbusters being released. Also watching niche films usually get more of limited theatre run. This means that my audience will likely consume films through DVD's but more probably film streaming services such as Netflix. I believe my audience will watch newer films by up and coming directors, such as 'Ill Manors' (directed by Ben Drew), 'Four Lions' (directed by Chris Morris), and 'Attack the Block' (directed by Joe Cornish).
Here is a moodboard I have constructed showing what products I expect my audience to enjoy:
Although I do not expect my audience to attend film festivals, I do expect them to be avid film viewers. This will mean I can add references to several popular films in my trailer (even including them as parody or homage). I expect my audience to spend a lot of their free time seeing friends as they are quite young, and going to the cinema/ watching DVD's in large groups.
